This story is best told in person, but here's the gist: When it was announced that JJ Abrams would direct the new Star Wars movie, I made this video in the hopes that he'd see it. Then the video went viral. Then JJ saw it. Then he called me. Then he put all my rules into his movie.
It's one of those Hollywood stories that you hear about, but just assume never really happens. Well, they do.
The Team: Robert Perez was my art director. Reed Harvey did the music and sound. Jason Windsor provided animation, and Chase Velarde did a ton of the illustrations.
The Monday Knights - webseries
Back in the day, when I was learning Cinema 4D, I had an idea for a show about a group of board gamers who actually enter the world of their game. I kickstarted 12 episodes for $5,000, then wrote, directed and produced the show (with much help from my brother, wife, good friend Loren, dad, and the Portland filmmaking community). We also had an interactive piece, where fans voted on the outcome of a joke each episode, and we would film their selected outcome and work it into the next episode. The whole thing was, frankly, ambitious. Some of it worked, some of it didn't, but there's clever writing and direction here, if you look past our low budget and rookie mistakes.
Episode 1: Frenemies
Episode 9: Battle for the Chubby Princess
Episode 11: Special Abilities
The World of Warcraft Guide to Winning at Life - book
A humor book I wrote for Chronicle Books. The premise is simple: playing a ton of World of Warcraft gives you all the skills you need to be successful in real life. Written as a game guide / self-help manual, this books helps gamers turn their in-game skills into real life fame, fortune and glory.
